Return-to-Work & Workplace Functioning

Supporting a Safe &
Sustainable Return.

Returning to work after burnout, prolonged stress, or a mental health leave can feel uncertain. Many individuals describe feeling caught between two pressures: the desire to move forward with their career, and the fear of returning too quickly and becoming overwhelmed again.

At Toriven™, we provide thoughtful support for individuals navigating this transition. Through therapy and clinically informed assessments, our goal is to help people rebuild confidence, restore emotional balance, and return to work in a way that supports long-term wellbeing. Returning to work should not simply mean “pushing through.” It should mean returning with the tools, clarity, and stability needed to thrive again.

When Work Feels Difficult to Resume

What the Transition Can Feel Like

After a period of burnout or mental health challenges, many people notice changes in how they experience work. These concerns are common and often improve with the right support and pacing.

🧠

Mental Fatigue

Tasks that once felt manageable may now require more concentration or energy. The mental effort of a full workday can feel overwhelming.

📉

Anxiety About Performance

Individuals may worry about meeting expectations, making mistakes, or falling behind — even when colleagues are supportive.

🌊

Emotional Overload

Workplace interactions, deadlines, or pressure may trigger strong stress responses that feel disproportionate to the situation.

📋

Difficulty Managing Workload

Prioritizing tasks or maintaining productivity can feel harder during recovery. Organization and focus may take more effort than before.

🔄

Fear of Relapse

Many individuals worry that returning to the same pace of work may lead to burnout again — creating a cycle of hesitation and self-doubt.

🤝

Navigating Workplace Relationships

Returning after leave can feel awkward or isolating. Questions about how to re-engage with colleagues and managers are common.

These experiences are a normal part of recovery. With the right support and pacing, they often improve significantly over time.

Who This Service May Support

Is This the Right Fit?

Return-to-work therapy and workplace functioning assessments may be helpful for individuals who are navigating any of the following.

Returning to work after burnout or mental health leave

Experiencing anxiety or stress related to workplace demands

Feeling overwhelmed by professional responsibilities

Wanting support rebuilding confidence and emotional resilience at work

Navigating workplace stress, conflict, or major career transitions

Workplace Functioning Assessments

Understanding How Stress Affects Work

In some situations, a structured psychological or behavioural assessment may help clarify how mental health factors are affecting workplace functioning. Assessments are conducted by regulated clinicians using structured evaluation methods where clinically appropriate.

Assessments May Explore

Attention and cognitive workload tolerance

Emotional stress response and burnout severity

Recovery capacity and readiness indicators

Executive functioning and task organization

Workplace stress triggers and coping patterns

Professional Recommendations

Supporting Recovery & Sustainable Functioning

Where clinically appropriate, clinicians may provide professional recommendations to support recovery and sustainable work functioning. Recommendations may include strategies such as:

Gradual pacing when returning to work
Workload adjustments or boundary strategies
Mental health supports for long-term stability
Recommendations supporting a sustainable return-to-work plan

Assessments and reports are provided only when clinically appropriate and within the clinician’s professional scope of practice. Our goal is to help individuals understand what support may help them succeed at work again, rather than simply returning under pressure.

Not sure if you need therapy, assessment, or both? Your introductory call is a good place to start. Your clinician can help determine the most appropriate path based on your situation and goals.
