Finding the Way Back
to Feeling Okay.
We Can Help You
Get There.

When anxiety or low mood starts to shrink your world — or your child’s — the hardest part is often not knowing why. Not knowing if it’s “just stress,” not knowing who to ask, not knowing what the answer would even look like. We provide the clinical clarity to untangle the emotions and a practical roadmap to start feeling better.

Whether you’re a parent watching your child’s world get smaller, a teenager exhausted by a mind that won’t stop racing, or an adult who has been managing this alone for longer than you should have — this is a space where you’ll be heard, not rushed.

Our Professional Commitment

All evaluations are conducted by Registered Psychologists governed by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). A specific diagnosis cannot be guaranteed. We provide evidence-informed evaluations that look at the full picture — including what might be mimicking anxiety or mood difficulties — and deliver honest, actionable findings. Results and timelines vary by individual.

You’re Not Alone in This

Anxiety and Low Mood Look Different at Every Age

What presents as “school refusal” in a 7-year-old looks very different from the quiet withdrawal of a teenager or the racing mind of an adult who has been coping alone for years. Common experiences at each stage.

Ages 6–10: When Worry Starts Running the Day

Young children don’t have the language to describe anxiety — so it shows up in their behaviour instead. Here’s what families describe in this age group:

Morning routines that have become battles — school refusal, stomach aches, or tears before the bus

Separation anxiety that feels more intense than their age would suggest

Meltdowns triggered by changes to routine, transitions, or uncertainty about what comes next

Reassurance-seeking that never quite reassures — the worries keep coming back

Physical complaints (headaches, stomach aches) with no clear medical cause, especially before school

🧒
Ages 6–10
“At this age, anxiety often looks like behaviour — refusal, tears, clinging. Understanding what’s underneath those behaviours is what allows us to actually address them rather than manage around them.”
Ages 8–13: When Worry Starts Shrinking Their World

At this age, anxiety can quietly begin to limit the activities, friendships, and experiences a child is willing to engage with. Here’s what families describe:

Activities, sports, or social events being dropped one by one as the anxiety expands

Social anxiety that makes group settings, speaking up in class, or navigating friendships genuinely difficult

Perfectionism and fear of failure that makes starting tasks harder than finishing them

Excessive worry about health, family, school performance, or things they can’t control

Therapy has been tried but hasn’t produced real change — and you’re not sure why

🎒
Ages 8–13
“The avoidance that comes with anxiety is the most important thing to understand — because every successful avoidance makes the anxiety slightly stronger. Knowing exactly what’s driving it changes what we do about it.”
Ages 13–17: When the Spark Goes Quiet

For teenagers, anxiety and low mood often arrive together — and each makes the other harder to see clearly. Common experiences at each stage

A teenager who used to be engaged, social, and interested is increasingly withdrawn

Activities, friendships, and interests they used to love are going quiet one by one

They describe feeling “flat,” “numb,” or like nothing is interesting anymore

Sleep is disrupted — either too much or not nearly enough — and energy is low

General talk therapy hasn’t produced change — and the therapeutic relationship feels like talking in circles

🎧
Ages 13–17
“For teenagers, an evaluation doesn’t just identify what’s happening — it gives their therapist, their school, and them a precise target. Generic support is replaced with a plan that’s actually built for this person.”
Adults: When You’ve Been Managing This Alone for Too Long

Many adults with anxiety or mood difficulties have been managing — quietly, mostly alone — for years. Here’s what brings adults to a mood and anxiety evaluation:

A mind that races constantly — the “what ifs” that arrive at 3am and won’t be reasoned away

Low mood or a persistent flat feeling that has been present long enough you’ve started to wonder if it’s just “who you are”

You’ve tried therapy before — but without a clear diagnosis, the sessions felt directionless

You wonder if what looks like anxiety is actually burnout, ADHD, or something else underneath

Work, relationships, or daily functioning are affected in ways you can no longer explain away as just stress

🧑
Adults 18+
“Something adults often share after an evaluation is that they wish they’d done this years ago. Having a name — and a plan — changes the weight of it immediately.”
Our Approach

An Investigation, Not
Just a Checklist.

A mood and anxiety evaluation at Toriven™ is more than a diagnostic check. It’s an investigation into how emotions are impacting daily life — and exactly what needs to change. We use validated emotional health tools, look at differential diagnosis, and produce a report that gives your therapist, doctor, and school a precise target. Assessment methods are selected based on age, presentation, and clinical appropriateness, and administered in accordance with professional standards.

📊

Validated Emotional Health Measures

We use standardized tools for anxiety severity, panic patterns, mood disorders, and emotional regulation — alongside a thorough clinical history to build an accurate and complete picture.

🔍

Differential Diagnosis: Is It Really Anxiety?

Anxiety, ADHD, burnout, and mood disorders can look similar from the outside. We look at what’s actually driving the symptoms — because the treatment plan is only effective when the target is correct.

🎯

A Roadmap, Not Just a Report

Our feedback sessions walk you through every finding in plain language. You leave with a prioritized treatment plan — whether that’s targeted therapy, lifestyle changes, school supports, or medical consultation.

For Teenagers (Ages 12+)

Your Teen’s Own Session

For teens aged 12 and up, we offer a private feedback session where your teenager hears directly from their clinician what was found — in language built for them. Understanding their own emotional patterns can be genuinely transformative for teenagers who have felt confused by their own experience.

What Comes After the Evaluation

The Report Changes What’s Possible

Our reports give therapists a precise target (instead of general talk therapy), give schools clear documentation for support, and give physicians a clinical foundation if medication is being considered. The evaluation helps clarify the most appropriate next steps across therapy, school, and medical care.

Not sure where to start?

That’s completely normal — most families and individuals who reach out aren’t sure either. Our free 20-minute Guidance Call is a genuine conversation, not a sales call. We’ll listen, answer your questions honestly, and tell you what we think the right path is — even if that path isn’t with us.

Want a clinical opinion before you decide?
Pre-Assessment Clinical Consultation

Sometimes the most useful thing before a full assessment is an honest clinical conversation. In a paid session with a registered psychologist, your clinician reviews your history and presenting concerns, explains what pathway — if any — is clinically indicated, and gives you an independent professional opinion on the right next step.

You may find that a less intensive option is right, that a phased approach makes more sense, or that a full assessment is clearly what’s needed. That clarity should come before any financial commitment — including whether a payment plan makes sense for your situation. If you do proceed with a Toriven™ assessment, the consultation fee is credited in full toward your care.
