Position Summary

As a Registered Social Worker – PTSD & Trauma Specialist at Toriven™, you will provide evidence-based trauma therapy to veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, and first responders across Ontario.

This is a clinically focused role delivering structured, evidence-informed care for individuals experiencing PTSD, operational stress injury, moral injury, and related mental health conditions. You will work directly with clients while collaborating within a multidisciplinary, virtual-first care model.

You will also contribute to the development of a specialized program supporting veterans and first responders, working with both private-pay and Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) funded pathways.

This role provides clinical care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary model. All regulated clinicians maintain independent clinical judgment in accordance with professional standards, and Toriven™ does not direct or influence individual clinical decisions.

What You Will Do

Clinical Therapy & Trauma Treatment (60%)

  • Deliver evidence-based trauma therapy to veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, and first responders, including PTSD, operational stress injury, moral injury, anxiety, depression, and transition-related presentations.
  • Apply trauma-focused modalities such as EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and trauma-focused CBT in alignment with evidence-based protocols.
  • Provide relationship counselling and family support where trauma impacts partners and family systems.
  • Design and facilitate structured group programs (e.g., PTSD psychoeducation, operational stress injury management, transition to civilian life).
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with OCSWSSW standards and applicable reporting requirements.

Program Development & Community Engagement (40%)

  • Support VAC provider registration within the initial phase of the role, with organizational support.
  • Build and maintain referral relationships with VAC case managers, OSI clinics, and relevant community organizations.
  • Represent Toriven™ in professional and community settings related to veteran and first responder mental health.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team on complex adult cases involving trauma, family systems, and return-to-work planning.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of Toriven™'s Veterans and First Responders program.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated clinical experience working with veterans, Canadian Armed Forces members, or first responders.
  • Strong understanding of military culture, operational stress injury, and trauma-related presentations.
  • Proven ability to deliver trauma-focused therapy using evidence-based approaches.
  • Experience providing virtual or telehealth-based trauma therapy.
  • Familiarity with the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) mental health system and referral pathways.
  • Ability to build professional relationships within the veteran or first responder support ecosystem.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage complex trauma presentations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
  • Current OCSWSSW registration (RSW), in good standing with no conditions.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-registration clinical experience with trauma and PTSD.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct clinical experience with veterans, CAF members, or first responders.
  • EMDR training (Level 1 or higher) or equivalent trauma-focused training; willingness to complete certification supported through CPD if not already completed.
  • Eligibility for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) provider registration.
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Screening (Ontario — mandatory).
  • Authorized to work and reside in Ontario.
  • French language proficiency considered an asset.
